The Round Tuit
Here is your “Round Tuit”. When I was about twelve, my grandmother gave me a wooden coin that said “Tuit” and said, “there you go!” Grandmother Grace was a busy woman. She was always working and doing, and I never saw her sit for any length of time except to do her morning Bible study. Living in the Texas panhandle all her life, she helped run the family farm and family pharmacy. She was also a beautician and raised three children. She was feisty, and always ready to share advice and wisdom.
I was obviously confused about what she had just handed me. So, she explained the concept of people saying they needed to do something, but would take care of it when they “Got Around To It”. This was a sign to “Get To It” and once you had the coin you could do the things you had been putting off. At the time, I had the internal groan of a young person, and slightly resented it.
Now, I realize how many things we put off that we KNOW we need to do, but think we will “Do it Later” or “I don’t have time now.” Frequently, we spend more time worrying about having NOT completed these things that it would take to actually just DO IT.
Some of these things only impact ourselves, and we tend to put those last on the list, whether or not we should. However, many of them actually impact our loved ones. Unfortunately, the inevitable curve balls of “life events” don’t wait until we have “gotten around to” being prepared for them. So, today I’m giving you your own “Round Tuit” as a sign that it is time. A simple call or note to me can set those things in motion that you’ve been putting off.
Whether it’s time to declutter, organize those essential documents so your loved ones can find them easily when needed, record the stories behind the family heirlooms, complete a home inventory, or just function better in your space, I am here to help you.
